Disability Widow's And Widower's Benefits
When a worker entitled to Social Security benefits dies,
the surviving spouse, age 60 or older may qualify for survivor
benefits. A disabled surviving spouse age 50 or older may also
qualify for benefits.
To be entitled benefits as a disabled widow or widower, you
must have a physical or mental impairment that prevents you
from doing any gainful work and that has lasted or can be
expected to last for at least one year or is expected to
result in death. There are other benefits that may be
available to the surviving spouse and dependent children.
