Social Security Disability - Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
The Social Security Administration operates the
Supplemental Security income program (known as
"SSI") that pays monthly benefits to certain
disabled people in financial need. The SSI program is
different from the Social Security disability program because
a disabled person need not have worked in the past to qualify
for benefits. However, there are strict limitations on the
income and assets a disabled person can have and still be
eligible for SSI.
